仙姬送子

七仙女對天宮清冷的生活日感煩厭，在窺視人間百態之中對紅塵心生嚮往。瞥見董永清貧勤奮，仙女感念其賣身三載葬父誠孝可嘉，由憐生愛，私自下凡。藉土地神之助，以槐蔭樹為媒，與董永結為夫妻。董永與仙女雙雙到傅家上工，在七仙女與另外六仙女的幫助下，在一夜之中織成錦絹十匹，把董永的工期縮短為百日。百日期滿正當回家之際，七仙女私嫁凡人之事為玉帝所知曉。玉帝勃然大怒，敕令仙女回歸天庭。是時仙女已身懷六甲，但思及董永安危，縱然對紅塵不捨也得回歸玉宇。槐蔭樹下仙女與董永訴說前因，表明來歷，從此訣別生離。

翌年，董永高中榮歸，七仙女亦已誕下麟兒。玉帝特許七仙女送子下凡，夫妻在人間得以最後相會。百日姻緣至此而終，天人之戀永誌仙凡。

The Fairy’s Baby

Bored of her lonely celestial life at the heavenly palace, the Seventh Fairy Maiden is fascinated by the world of mortals. The fairy observes and is deeply moved by poor Dong Yong, who is obligated to perform hard labor for three years in the Fu household in return for a proper burial for his late father. When sympathy for him turns into earthly love, the Fairy Maiden descends to the mortal world. With the help of the God of Earth and the Shading-tree, a matchmaker, the fairy and Dong marry.

With the magical power of his wife and the six other fairies, Dong makes quick work of the tasks given him by the Fus. Ten bolts of immaculate brocade are miraculously produced overnight, a task that would otherwise require a hundred days to complete. The Jade Emperor learns of the fairy’s transgression a hundred days after she has come to the world of mortals. Infuriated, he orders the Fairy Maiden to return to the heavenly palace. Although already pregnant and deeply engrossed in the mortal world, the Seventh Fairy Maiden has to accede for Dong’s safety. Under the Shading-tree, the fairy reveals her identity and predicament, and the couple bid a sad farewell to each other.

The next year, Dong returns glorious from his success in the imperial examination, and the Fairy Maiden gives birth to a son. The Jade Emperor allows the Seventh Fairy Maiden to descend to the world once more to bring her son to his father and to meet her love for the last time. Though joined for a mere hundred days, their celestial love is revered forever among all beings.
