雙仙拜月亭

蔣世隆與瑞蓮兄妹逃避戰亂至一驛館，瑞蓮本與秦侍郎之子興福訂情，惜秦家遭奸臣殺害。兵部尚書王鎮亦帶同家人逃難至驛館，他往軍營前叮囑女兒瑞蘭必須守身以保家聲。亂兵殺至驛館，眾人逃亡失散。瑞蘭與世隆偶遇同行，二人漸生情愫。王夫人則與瑞蓮相遇，認作母女同行。世隆與瑞蘭到興福避居之處，興福自薦為媒，二人即時拜堂，暫居西樓。時王鎮等人亦借住東樓，他誤以為女兒無媒苟合，大怒命瑞蘭回府。世隆悲極投江自盡，被王夫人之姊卞夫人所救，改名卞雙卿。王鎮擢升為宰相，擬為女兒瑞蘭及乾女兒瑞蓮在狀元之中挑選夫婿。瑞蘭以為世隆投江已死，請求在成婚前到玄妙觀祭奠世隆亡魂；世隆亦借詞到觀內附薦亡魂，實則二人分別決定於祭拜亡魂後殉愛。瑞蘭於拜月亭重遇世隆，時眾人到來，證實世隆即為狀元，王鎮終准許瑞蘭與之成婚，瑞蓮亦得與興福團圓。

The Moon Pavilion

Seeking refuge from a war, Jiang Shilong comes to a post house with Lian and her brother. Also lodging there is the Minister of War, Wang Zhen, and his family. Lian was engaged to Xingfu, son of Assistant Minister Qin, but the Qins have been framed by a wicked minister, leaving the matter unresolved. Before he leaves for the barracks, the war minister tells his daughter Ruilan to stay chaste for the reputation of the family. When rebels advance upon the post house, people there flee in panic, going in all directions.

Meeting by chance, Ruilan and Shilong decide to travel together and soon they fall in love. The travelers are joined by Wang’s wife, who adopts the girl along the journey. Shilong and Ruilan come across a deserted castle where Xingfu is taking refuge. With Xingfu offering to be the witness for their wedding, they perform the ritual at once and begin to stay in the west tower for the time being. Wang Zhen happens to be staying in the east tower at the time. Thinking that his daughter has married hastily without a witness, he is so angry that he orders her to go home. Grieved, Shilong tries to drown himself in the river, but he is saved byBian, sister of Wang’s wife. After that he renames himself Bian Shuangqing. Having been promoted to prime minister, Wang decides to choose a husband for her foster child among the scholars who have just won the highest honors in the imperial exam. The girl asks permission to offer sacrifices to her first-wed in Xuanmiao Temple before her wedding. It happens that Shilong has also come to the temple to pray for the soul of Ruilan, who he believes to be dead. In fact, both have decided to kill themselves for love. They meet again at the Moon Pavilion. Others arrive and testify that Shilong is indeed an exemplary scholar. Wang finally agrees with their marriage, and Lian is reunited with Xingfu.
